Millstone
Arriving Soon
Decades ago, the mill that built the valley burned to the ground, killing one hundred and thirty‑seven of Millstone’s founding families. Their remains were never moved, left beneath the ruins like a warning no one dared speak aloud. Millstone survived by forgetting—until the children started disappearing.
One by one, they vanished.
No bodies. No answers. Just names fading into memory.
Now, twelve-year-old Evan Vale is gone. As panic grips the valley and tensions ignite between Millstone and neighboring Briar Bend, the town uncovers clues that tie the present to the valley’s darkest history.
Old suspicions resurface. Old divisions harden. And the truth, long hidden beneath the ruins of the mill, begins to rise. In a place where faith shapes memory and silence carries weight, the truth is never just what happened. It’s who gets to tell it.

A haunting, southern gothic novel about family, power, and the fragile lines between innocence and suspicion in a town that keeps its secrets close.

About the Author
Scott Wallace grew up in the Virginia foothills, where river towns, old mill roads, and the quiet weight of history shaped his imagination. A longtime mortgage underwriter by trade, he has spent years studying the way communities rise, fracture, and endure. His fiction blends that lived experience with a fascination for the unseen forces that bind people together—and pull them apart. Millstone is his second novel, following The Outermost, and continues his exploration of the myths we inherit and the secrets we carry.
